The SBLRC is considered the community-based clinical research field site within San Diego State University (SDSU) where research activities are conducted.   The SBLRC primarily focuses on epidemiologic, behavioral, and genetic research to improve the care being delivered to Hispanic/Latinos at risk for having cardiovascular disease (CVD).    Housed within the SBLRC, the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) is a multi-center, interdisciplinary epidemiological study of Hispanic/Latino populations in the United States sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and other institutions, centers, and offices of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The goals of the HCHS/SOL study include further exploration of the prevalence and development of chronic diseases in Hispanics/Latinos, the role of acculturation in health conditions, and to identify factors that play protective or harmful roles in health among Hispanics/Latinos. This longitudinal cohort study is intended to address a wide variety of health conditions, including heart disease, stroke, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, and diabetes, among others. The target population recruited from the South Bay area of San Diego County includes over 4,000 persons of Hispanic/Latino origin between the ages of 18-74.

FUNCTION OF THE UNIT SDSU is leading a new project funded by a UC Climate Action grant in support of a collaborative partnership to advance community and ecosystem resilience to climate change through Indigenous stewardship. Our project, the Collaborative of Native Nations for Climate Transformation and Stewardship (CNNCTS) brings together four universities, six Tribal partners, and the Climate Science Alliance’s Tribal Working Group, a network of representatives from 20+ Tribal governments and organizations in southern California to facilitate a paradigm shift in how climate action is visioned, led, and implemented. The hourly rate for this position is $16.85 and is non-negotiable.    This work will support the ISR Department Lead Systems Engineer and potentially any of the projects within the ISR Department that don’t require a special clearance. Students will provide technical and/or analytical support in the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) area towards systems integration of new and existing technologies to include autonomous vehicle and other ISR equipment research and development. Dr. Blashill received funds from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct and facilitate research on eating disorder treatment among sexual minority adults.   PURPOSE OF THE POSITION This position will be primarily coordinating PRIDE (under the direction of PI: Aaron Blashill). This research project focuses on refinement and testing a novel eating disorder treatment for sexual minority adults. This project will be conducted alongside partners at Auburn University; however, this position is housed within SDSU. This is a two-year position, with opportunities for extension pending availability of funding. Ideal start date is spring-summer 2024. The Research Coordinator would collaborate with investigators, staff, and students across the research teams at SDSU and Auburn University.
