Overview

The salary range for this position is $25.12 - $27.41 per hour depending upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.

 

Flexibility to work and attend events that occur on nights and weekends is required.

 

KPBS serves the greater San Diego community with informative, cultural, entertaining and educational television, radio, and web programming.  KPBS TV/FM is the public television and radio station for San Diego.  Licensed to San Diego State University, KPBS supports and furthers the university’s educational and community service mission by informing, enlightening and empowering its audience.  It does so not only by presenting national and locally produced programming of value to its San Diego audience, but also by producing programming about San Diego and its people for distribution nationwide.

 

The function of the Development Division at KPBS is to manage and increase all aspects of major gifts, mid-level gifts, planned gifts, endowment gifts, campaign gifts and annual membership at Producers Club level and above. Additionally, the Development Division plays a key role in raising awareness of its programming and activities throughout the community.

Responsibilities

Under general direction from the Development & Operations Manager, this position will be responsible for the coordination of stewardship mailings, major and mid-level donor reports, coordination of various mail & email programs, providing budget support and gift processing support, scheduling of special donor events, coordinating luncheons and cultivation meetings, managing event offers for donors, maintaining confidential donor records, representing KPBS to external constituencies (donors, foundations, corporations, etc.), and providing clerical and administrative support. This position will also manage a small portfolio of mid-level and lower level PC members, elevating donor engagement and increasing levels of philanthropic support.

Mid-Level and Major Gifts Support (50%)

  • Support upper level gift processing and stewardship, including personalized thank you letters and database entry
  • Provide weekly/monthly updates for KPBS Leadership Team
  • Maintain prospect and major donor review lists for Development Staff. Update these lists in conjunction with staff reviews and ratings
  • Research donors, prospects and foundations for major gifts
  • Support Lapsed PC program logistics and mailings
  • Develop creative touchpoints for major and mid-level donors
  • Maintain contact reports when touchpoints and solicitations are made, gifts received, events attended, etc. 
  • Assemble information materials and packets for presentations
  • Prepare bios, profiles, and summaries for donor meetings
  • Secure premiums for donors upon request
  • Oversee preparing, updating and tracking for major donor on air spots
  • Prepare touchpoints for major donors and prospects
  • Prepare reports for Major Donor restricted gifts 
  • Manage upper level Producers Club & Major Donor offers
  • Provide support to the Development & Operations Manager, Chief Development Officer, Sr. Director of Development, and Gift Officers

 

Fundraising (15%)

  • Manage a small portfolio of current and prospective mid-level and Producers Club members with planned touch points, prompt thanking and timely solicitations, with a premium placed on donor retention and increased giving. 
  • Responsible for developing and achieving revenue goals, as well as forecasting portfolio revenue.  
  • Manage relationships with prospective and current members using multiple channels, including phone, email, personal mail, Zoom and face-to-face meetings, when appropriate.
  • Engage donors through consistent stewardship and active cultivation to increase member support, achieve revenue goals and enhance the member experience.
  • Determine which donors would benefit from more personalization and increased frequency of contact. 
  • Maintain appropriate and consistent donor-centric communications in all materials, such as solicitation, acknowledgement, stewardship and customer service. Participate in writing, editing, image sourcing and content approval.

Budget, Operations & Administration (15%)

  • Prepare donor and financial information for Development team as requested
  • Generate monthly revenue for Producers Club budget and weekly revenue updates
  • Track outgoing dollars and prepare forms for withdrawals and deposits to the appropriate account
  • Process purchase orders, reimbursements, check requests and office travel/mileage expense requests
  • Reconcile all accounts with business office
  • Assure compliance with the internal controls manual
  • Assist with gift processing and entry
  • Create and manage new queries through donor software data mining to identify prospects and unsolicited members.
  • Assist with the management of Development donor records in conjunction with the Membership Department.
  • Assist team with writing proposal drafts for major initiatives
  • Formulate queries, mailing lists and reports
  • Verify incoming and outgoing paperwork

Events and Tours (10%)

  • Attend and provide support at events.
  • Create event materials – name tags, gift bags, signage, etc.
  • Assist with station events when appropriate
  • Oversee preparation, set-up and break-down of tours

Planned Giving (5%)

  • Assist with managing prospective and current planned giving donors in the donor database. 
  • Assist with marketing to prospective and current planned giving donors via multiple platforms - radio, television, online, and direct mail.
  • Assist with planned giving campaigns.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities 

  • Thorough written and oral communication skills, including English grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma

Minimum Experience

  • 6-years of progressively responsible experience in an office or administrative environment

Preferred Qualifications and Special Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Experience with donor database software 
  • Experience in Public Broadcasting 
  • Experience in Fundraising and events
