Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.   KPBS serves the greater San Diego community with informative, cultural, entertaining and educational television, radio, and web programming.  KPBS TV/FM is the public television and radio station for San Diego.  Licensed to San Diego State University, KPBS supports and furthers the university’s educational and community service mission by informing, enlightening and empowering its audience.  It does so not only by presenting national and locally produced programming of value to its San Diego audience, but also by producing programming about San Diego and its people for distribution nationwide. Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, the KPBS Director of People and Culture will play a central role in supporting the management and staff toward building a nationally recognized media organization, ensuring employee engagement and development as KPBS team members, and attracting and training the right talent to execute our mission and maintain KPBS’ national leadership role within the public media community.    Additionally, this individual will serve as a resource for KPBS employees, providing expertise and guidance with regard to human resources, labor relations, learning and development and ongoing employee functional training to ensure the staff is prepared to perform at the highest level utilizing the systems, policies and procedures specific to KPBS, SDSU Research Foundation (SDSURF) and San Diego State University (SDSU).   As a member of the Leadership Team, the KPBS Director of People and Culture will also serve as the liaison between KPBS and SDSURF HR, working closely with designated SDSURF HR personnel on any employee actions related to hiring, compensation changes, investigations, terminations and labor grievances. The SDSURF Chief Human Resources Officer or designee has final approval on all employment related matters for SDSURF employees including KPBS employees. Director of Research Initiatives (Administrator I/II/III) is open until filled with an initial application review to take place after December 20, 2023.    The salary range for this position is $5,642 - $11,388 per month depending upon qualifications, classification level, and internal equities.   The Director Research Initiatives-Engineering and Physical Sciences shall serve under the guidance of the Associate Vice President, Research Advancement of SDSU and shall identify, develop, and promote special programs and initiatives to meet the research and outreach goals and objectives of SDSU.    While Research Advancement serves the needs of all campus researchers and scholars, this position will have a disciplinary focus on opportunities especially related to engineering and physical sciences and industry/academia collaborative projects. The Director will have special focus on: creative discoveries, innovative research strategies, and their applications for advancing knowledge related to computing, energy, environmental and physical sciences technologies; development of scientific human and physical resources that contribute to research; and, support of academic-industry-government laboratory collaborations.   The Director will advise faculty and researchers on funding opportunities and strategic planning for extramural research proposals. The main focus of efforts are 1) single investigator proposals, 2) major large scale, multidisciplinary and/or multi-investigator research projects, and 3) training, institutional program development, and outreach proposals.

The salary range for this position is $5,373.33 - $7,916.67 per month ($64,479.96 - $95,000 per year) depending upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.   KPBS produces and distributes educational, cultural and informational public television, radio and web programming for the benefit of the San Diego community. KPBS TV/FM and KPBS.ORG also produce programs for regional and national distribution and engage in a number of related, non-broadcast, telecommunications activities.   The Operations and Technology Division of KPBS is responsible for the building and technical facilities of the station(s) used in electronic media production, recording and transmission. The salary range for this position is dependent upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.  Producer level I: $31.45 - $32.98 per hour Producer level II: $33.18 - 34.62 per hour    This position is part of the SAG-AFTRA bargaining unit with KPBS.   Licensed to San Diego State University, KPBS Radio, Television and Online serves San Diego and Imperial counties with news, information, entertainment and cultural content.  The organization produces and distributes local and national content that is valued and trusted by local, regional, national and international audiences, and is worthy of support.   Purpose of the Position The KPBS Midday Edition News Producer will produce segments for KPBS Midday Edition on radio, podcast and KPBS.org. The show aims to give listeners a deeper understanding of themselves, others and the community they live in, while aiming to inspire, inform and make listeners think.
