KPBS Television and Radio broadcast programs in the public interest to San Diego. Additionally, KPBS offers digital services through its various digital offerings inclusive of KPBS.org.
The KPBS Corporate Development Department is responsible for securing support from corporations, foundations, individual businesses and government agencies. That support is recognized in the form of underwriting or credits in our local, regional and national television and radio programming. Additionally, the Corporate Development Department is responsible for generating revenue through support of the KPBS.org website.
KPBS serves the greater San Diego community with informative, cultural, entertaining and educational television, radio, and web programming. KPBS TV/FM is the public television and radio stations for San Diego. Licensed to San Diego State University, KPBS supports and furthers the university’s educational and community service mission by informing, enlightening and empowering its audience. It does so not only by presenting national and locally produced programming of value to its San Diego audience, but also by producing programming about San Diego and its people for distribution nationwide.
The Traffic Coordinator works under the supervision of the KPBS TV/FM Traffic Manager to develop, administer, and execute the stations’ broadcast logs. Each traffic coordinator in the department will be assigned primary responsibility for either the television logs or the radio logs, but must be proficient in both platforms in order to provide backup support during vacations, absences or other necessary instances. The traffic coordinator performs scheduling and traffic coordination of the stations’ daily programming content, underwriting spots as well as other promotional and interstitial material.
KPBS is San Diego’s public television and radio stations. The California State University Board of Regents owns its broadcast license and San Diego State University Foundation acts as its fiscal agent. The stations currently receive financial support from the University, the federal government and private corporations and foundations. The Marketing, Education and New Media division is responsible for a variety of activities including on-air fundraising, membership, community relations and outreach, public information, kpbs.org, volunteers, events, graphic design, print and broadcast marketing and advertising. The single largest source of revenue for the stations’ support is raised in the MENM division through in the form of memberships. Currently, about 49,000 members provide more than $6 million in gross revenue annually, roughly one-third of KPBS’ annual operating budget.
Under the direct supervision of the On Air Fundraising Manager and Senior Producer, the Producer II will be responsible for implementing the tactics required to meet the fundraising goals of the radio and television fundraising campaigns conducted throughout the year at KPBS; testing and implementing new online revenue opportunities including on-air promotions/campaigns to increase online revenue year round; providing production, coordination and administrative support during on air television campaigns; and working collaboratively with the membership marketing staff on various tactics related to the online fundraising site.
