The reporter will work at the direction of the News Director, under the supervision of a News Editor, and work in coordination with other members of the News Division. The reporter will be part of a team tasked with covering social inequity in housing, social services, immigration, schools, workplaces, cultural institutions, the legal system and access to health care. Cultivating the beat is important, but all KPBS reporters will occasionally work outside their beats, or conversely team up with others as the news merits.   KPBS news beats include arts and culture, health, education, environment, investigative, military and other topics and issues.  The reporter will produce news stories that may cross beats at the assignment of the News Editor, and that can be distributed on KPBS radio, TV, KPBS.org, KPBS social networks and KPBS mobile.  The news stories will be produced in formats such as, but not limited to, radio newscasts, in-depth radio features, TV packages, multimedia projects and special reports as assigned. The reporter may be assigned to help fill in for other newsroom positions, such as anchoring newscasts or web producing, and appear as a guest or host on KPBS TV and radio programs.  The reporter will produce local content and prepare final productions that can be distributed on all KPBS platforms. This position will be open until filled.   KPBS TV/FM and kpbs.org, San Diego’s public media platforms, are licensed to San Diego State University.  The function of the Development Division at KPBS is to manage and increase all aspects of major gifts, Campaign gifts, planned gifts, endowment gifts, and annual membership of the Producers Club to the Station. Additionally, the Development Division plays a key role in raising awareness of its programming and activities throughout the community   The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will be involved in all aspects of major gift fundraising for the station. Primary responsibilities include acquiring and upgrading Producers Club members, as well as securing major, campaign, and planned gifts.   The MGO will secure gifts of $10,000 a year or more from individual, family and private foundations. The successful candidate in this position will work with our Producers Club members and other prospects to identify, cultivate, and solicit individuals for renewals, upgrades and major gifts. The MGO will identify new opportunities to engage with KPBS Producers Club members and major donor prospects. The MGO will also identify prospects for planned gifts.   This position will play a key role as KPBS embarks on several campaigns that will lay the foundation for the organization’s future success. The campaigns will focus on capital improvements related to facilities and technology, endowment and sustainability, estate and planned gifts.   Responsible for securing face-to-face donor visits, writing cases for support, proposals and gift solicitations, and to follow up and insure that gifts and grants received are appropriately recognized and meet requirements. KPBS Radio, Television & Online serves San Diego County with news, information, entertainment and cultural content.  The organization presents local and national content that is valued and trusted by the community.  KPBS also produces and distributes content about San Diego that is valued by local, regional, national and international audiences and is worthy of support.   The Freelance News Producer is responsible for producing daily news and information segments for Midday Edition on radio and KPBS.org with the goal of finding unique angles on top stories or creative sidebars.  The show aims to localize national stories, breaks news and uncovers issues worthy of national attention.   This position is filled on an on-call, as-needed basis with no set schedule.

The Freelancer Reporter covers news of local relevance and often national significance across all KPBS beats, as directed.  The reporter will work collaboratively with beat reporters, and at the direction of the News Editor.  The reporter will also work in coordination with other members of the News Division.   KPBS beats involve taking complex concepts and rendering them into accessible and compelling stories.  These stories will be carefully grounded in fact, but can still be playful or moving as the subject matter requires.  KPBS news beats are, but not exclusive to, arts & culture, border, education, environment, health, investigative, metro, and military.    The Reporter will pitch news stories, or be assigned stories by the editors, that can be distributed on KPBS radio, TV, KPBS.org, KPBS social networking and KPBS mobile.  The news stories will be produced in formats for radio newscasts, in-depth radio features, TV packages, multi-media projects and special reports as assigned. The Reporter works closely with online producers and editors to create original content in support of beat reporting.     The Reporter may be assigned to anchor radio newscasts, and appear as a guest or host on KPBS TV and radio programs. The Reporter is expected to participate in station on-air fundraising activities, and make appearances for KPBS community-building events and other public relations activities.   This position is filled on an on-call, as-needed basis with no set schedule.

This position is open until filled with an initial application review to take place after August 5, 2022.   This position works a hybrid in-office/remote schedule.      Reporting to the Director of Facilities Management, the Real Estate Administrative Analyst supports the department by performing a variety of routine to complex administrative tasks in a fast-paced environment. This position requires a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism while interacting with senior executives, university representatives, faculty, tenants, vendors, and contractors. The candidate must be well organized, detail oriented, flexible, proactive, resourceful, and able to complete high volumes of complex tasks and projects quickly while meeting tight deadlines and react with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require quick turnaround. This position will regularly perform administrative and technical work in analyzing data, attending/scheduling meetings, preparing written reports, reviewing proposals/contracts/agreements, preparing statistical reports and spreadsheets, etc. Work isperformed using considerable judgment and involves management of critical data, integrating processes within an organization as a whole to maintain core services, which support and foster research.

KPBS is the public media station for San Diego with a mission to be the premier source of local news and information for the San Diego region.    The Freelance News Editor ensures we prioritize accountability-driven coverage, and include a mix of thought-provoking stories as well as fresh explainers that teach the audience something new. KPBS is committed to providing quality local in-depth news and news analysis on all of its platforms – TV, Radio, Web and Mobile. The mission of the news division is to provide balanced, accurate reports about the people and issues of import affecting San Diego & Imperial Counties and its citizens.     The Freelance News Editor works under the supervision of the Director of News & Editorial Strategy (DNES) to manage the day-to-day coverage of news and to edit/review daily news on radio, TV and online, assigning stories, news planning, reporting and editing for radio, TV, and the web and supervises reporters and their daily assignments.
