  • Overview

    This Statement of Work covers the need for student services to provide technical analytical support in the fields of Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, or Statistics (focus on data analysis) for projects within the Naval Information Warfare Center’s (NIWC) Advanced Imagery Analysis (AIA) lab. The purpose of this project is to develop synthetic images of ships in realistic maritime environments using Unity program.

     

    Responsibilities

    This work supports the development and training of automated, maritime surveillance systems using modern deep neural networks. These networks require massive amounts of training data (images). Since it is impossible to collect all possible target types that one might encounter under all possible environmental conditions, we augment real-world data with synthetically generated data. In Unity, we can create thousands of synthetic images of these targets in varying environmental conditions. Using larger datasets increases the accuracy of these networks when applied to Navy problems.

    Qualifications

    Undergraduate Student 1 - Freshman or Sophomore Level

    Must have course work in the discipline requested on the task order Statement of Work. The student must be at the Freshman or Sophomore level, have understanding of the discipline and theories, but can be without experience. This level is expected to need training and supervision.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate Major: Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, or Statistics (or
      any technical major; undecided major acceptable at this level.)

    Required Course Work:

    • High School Trigonometry
    • High School Beginning Programming
    • College course where predictive modeling is part of curriculum

    Preferred Qualifications and Special Skills:

    • Data Analysis
    • Microsoft Office
    • Graphic Design
    • Basic familiarization with geospatial systems (Google Earth)
    • Technical Writing

    This is an unclassified task.

     

    This position will require the employee to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

    Due to the regulations established by the Department of Defense, only US Citizens may qualify
