  • Overview

The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at San Diego State University has consistently been a leader in the California State University system in training successful scientists. SDSU’s commitment to research and training is evident in its investment in modern facilities and excellent faculty, and our location encourages fruitful collaboration with surrounding universities and industry.

In the Swairjo Lab, we are interested in discovering and characterizing new metabolic pathways involved in RNA biogenesis and identifying novel antimicrobial targets in these pathways. We combine biochemical, structural, molecular biology and bioinformatics tools to elucidate the molecular functions and catalytic mechanisms of RNA modification enzymes with the long term goal of using this knowledge for drug discovery. We are seeking a motivated, talented, and amiable scientist to join our research team.

The successful candidate will provide critical support to the many projects in our lab and have an overall desire to learn, help, and contribute.

    Responsibilities

    Duties will include:

Molecular cloning, protein overexpression, purification and crystallization, in vitro RNA transcription and purification, running gel-shift assays, preparing plasmid, autoclaving, maintaining lab databases and protocols, performing equipment calibrations and maintenance, providing training to students and collaborators, ordering and stocking lab supplies, preparing buffers and solutions, maintaining general lab cleanliness, assisting in lab management, and other tasks as required.
