  • Overview

This Statement of Work covers the need for the services of a college student to provide technical and/or analytical support in the fields of electrical engineering, computer engineering, mathematics, physics, or statistics at educational institutions in support of experimental design as well as scientific research and development at Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Pacific (SSC Pacific). The purpose of this task is to convert data analysis into meaningful communication tools and design experiments to demonstrate the data.

Experimental design and engineering is needed to refine science, technology, engineering, and mathematics experiments and present them as a tool used for communicating scientific findings.

    • Preparing, developing, executing lab experiments and/or demonstrations that necessitate inquiry based learning.  Reviewing, analyzing and documenting specific operational procedures for executing experiments.  Assembling scientific apparatus – e.g. vacuum chambers, oscillators, various resonance apparatus, Arduinos, Raspberry Pi, building robots, etc.
    •  Performing literature searches and reviews; compiling and cataloging background material; and/or preparing summaries and bibliographies.  Research studies involving inclusion of standards and math content within activities and demonstrations.
    •  Performing data conversion and coding, and/or data analysis and data reduction; visualizing data analysis into meaningful communication tools.  Collecting, developing, and analyzing performance data (in regards to lab experiments).
    •  Updating scientific experimental data; reporting experimental descriptions and outcomes so others could repeat the process; and training others to perform similar activities.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Undergraduate Level 3.

    • Computer engineering, Electrical engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or Physics major (senior).

    Required Course Work:

    • Engineering,
    • Science courses or equivalent which would provide student with basic foundation in their understanding of: resonance, waves, atmospheric pressure, sound, coefficient of restitution, electricity and magnetism, programming, information assurance, and/or cyber security.

    Additional Qualifications Desired:

    Experience with:

    • Physics equipment such as: vacuum chambers, various resonance apparatus.
    • Independently putting demonstration/lab material together.
    • Programming Arduinos and/or Raspberry Pis.
    • Using lab programs such as MATLAB.
    • Presenting STEM experiments in classroom settings.
    • Understanding of basic physics concepts (vibration, mechanics, light).
