The purpose of this task is to provide analytical and technical support services from college students majoring in Computer Science and Engineering with 3D Modelers/ Artists skills to assist with the Battlespace Exploitation of Mixed Reality (BEMR) Lab. This project looks to explore and develop mixed reality solutions for the warfighter using low-cost, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) gaming and cell phone technology. The goal of this project is to evaluate, integrate and exploit commercial mixed reality (MxR) technology for adaptation to the battlespace to increase and broaden the US warfighter’s asymmetric advantage.
DoD is currently using very few MxR solutions. In the scenarios where MxR is currently employed, the gear is too specialized and extremely expensive. This BEMR project will use inexpensive equipment that can simulate the virtual command center, tactical environment, training scenarios, etc. The purpose of a previous project, Blueshark lab (a fore-runner project to BEMR), was to speculate what will happen in the next 25-50 years in the Navy and Marine Corps. The purpose of the travel is to assist senior engineers in design review meetings with sponsor to collect design requirements. Additionally, the sponsor demonstrates technology at a technical conference I/ITSEC in Orlando, FL. The student would support in setting up demonstration equipment, demonstrating equipment, as well as conduct research of emerging technologies in support of future VR/AR feasibility studies.

Developing and researching virtual/augmented reality applications and/or 3D Design. Unity, C#, Java, 3D CAD Design software experience. Programming and human factors/ human-machine interface skills are desired but not required.
