    The purpose of this task is to provide analytical and technical support services from college students majoring in Computer Science, Engineering and 3D Modelers/ Artists to assist with the Battlespace Exploitation of Mixed Reality (BEMR) Lab. This project looks to explore and develop mixed reality solutions for the warfighter using low- cost, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) gaming and cell phone technology. The goal of this project is to evaluate, integrate and exploit commercial mixed reality (MxR) technology for adaptation to the battlespace to increase and broaden the US warfighter’s asymmetric advantage.


    DoD is currently using very few MxR solutions. In the scenarios where MxR is currently employed, the gear is too specialized and extremely expensive. This BEMR project will use inexpensive equipment that can simulate the virtual command center, tactical environment, training scenarios, etc. The purpose of a previous project, Blueshark lab (a fore-runner project to BEMR), was to speculate what will happen in the next 25-50 years in the Navy and Marine Corps. This effort focuses on ways to immediately exploit equipment and software that can be obtained in the commercial space and scale it to the warfighter, getting it in as many hands as possible.


    Technical Requirements:

    • Reviewing, evaluating and determining ways in which mixed reality has been used in the past for command and control and research gaps within the
    • Designing, exercising and/or testing interaction between the operator and the synthetic
    • Programming design changes into virtual reality and evaluating those changes for code


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Undergrad Level 3: Computer Science, Engineering, Game Design, Game Art (3D Models) or equivalent major.
    • Required Class or Experience: Developing and researching virtual/augmented reality applications and/or 3D Design.

    Additional Qualifications Desired:

    • Unity, C#, Java, 3D CAD Design software experience
    • Computer scientist, engineer and/or 3D design students preferred
    • Programming and human factors/ human-machine interface skills are desired but not required.


    This is a student position and is limited to working 20 hours per week
