Overview

 

This position is open for 30 days with the first review of applications on February 20, 2018

 

 

Positions in the Research Specialist Classifications are concerned primarily with the compilation and interpretation of both qualitative information and statistical data in the investigation of problems in specific subject matter fields.  Under immediate supervision, the incumbent gathers, compiles and analyzes research data; develops tabulation and coding procedures; and does related work as required. This position will carry out and oversee the performance of cellular molecular cardiology research in an academic research setting.

 

 

Responsibilities

The Research Specialist is responsible for but not limited to:

 

Research: 100%

  • Carry out molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry experiments in an academic biomedical research environment as directed by supervisor
  • Assist in gathering, compiling and analyzing experimental data and preparing reports on the findings
  • Preparation of molecular cloning of DNA in bacteria; preparation of mammalian expression constructs and mutagenesis
  • Preparation of cell culture of cell lines, as well as preparation of primary cell cultures
  • Preparation of transfection of cultured cells
  • Preparations of SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting
  • Preparation of phase contrast and immunofluorescence microscopy and confocal microscopy

 

Qualifications

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of research techniques and the methods of preparation of research reports
  • Ability to gather and analyze research data, and in compiling data for reports and summaries
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and to adopt an effective course of action
  • Ability to carry out molecular cloning of DNA in bacteria, and assist in the design and preparation of mammalian expression constructs and mutagenesis.

Minimum Education

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a relevant field such as biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or pharmacology

Minimum Experience

  • One-year of experience in technical research or statistical work; one year of graduate study in the social sciences or an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS degree in a relevant field, such as biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, pharmacology
  • Some experience in biomedical research lab preferred
