Overview

San Diego State University is a major public research university with strong innovation and entrepreneurial programs. Under the leadership of the Vice-President for Research, the public affairs/communications specialist will use world-class services and technologies to enhance SDSU’s mission as a student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented public university. The specialist position is a temporary two-year pilot program with possibility of extension.

 

This position is open until filled with first review of applications on Friday, November 10, 2017.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, manages and executes comprehensive strategic communications, marketing and public relations programs to advance the impact and outreach of the research, innovation and entrepreneurship activities of the University.
  • Develops, manages, and executes communications plans and programs, including creating written, visual, and electronic communications in support of research, innovation and entrepreneurship projects and initiatives.
  • Develops and executes organizational communication, market branding strategy, public relations plans, news releases and promotional material, including brochures, fact sheets, newsletters and social media.
  • Partners with communications leads in other University units, including Marketing and Communications.
  • Managing the on-line presence for the Office of Graduate and Research Affairs including Technology Transfer and Research Advancement.
  • Assisting with outreach, training, community building and support programs for researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs across the campus.
  • Assisting with organizational and professional development events and programs, and culture-change initiatives.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience/Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related field
• Two years of related professional or technical experience writing compelling content for a variety of on-line and print publications

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a higher education setting
• Previous experience in Communications or Journalism
