PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
We are seeking a highly organized and customer service-oriented candidate to serve as the Pilot Project Program Coordinator. One of the Center's goals is to advance the careers of junior investigators (i.e., under-represented post-doctoral fellows and early-stage investigators) to become leaders in minority health and health disparities research. The Center will accomplish its goal by providing project funding, grant writing, and research management training, as well as facilitating strong collaborations with highly qualified mentors and research leaders in basic biomedical, behavioral/population, and clinical/health services research. This role, in close collaboration with other Center Cores and Center leadership, will build a nurturing environment for the career enhancement of junior investigators to succeed as independent extramurally-funded researchers. This position is key to the success of the SDSU HealthLINK Center.
Under the supervision of the Core’s Co-Leaders, this position will have primary responsibility for all day-to-day operations of the Pilot Project Program. The Pilot Project Program Coordinator will work with other team members to implement the Pilot Project Program including the pre-and-post-award administration and reporting; prepare for the National Advisory Committee meetings; and develop and refine procedures and workflows. Further, in collaboration with the Deputy Director, the Pilot Project Program Coordinator will be responsible for planning and implementing the Center’s career enhancement activities. The “Approaches to Research with Communities affected by HIV and Substance Use” (ARCHES) Lab is led by Dr. Eileen V. Pitpitan, Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at San Diego State University. The ARCHES Lab is focused on research and initiatives aimed at understanding and intervening on the syndemic of HIV, substance use, and co-occurring conditions (e.g., poor mental health, violence, stigma) among marginalized communities. Research conducted in the lab primarily utilizes approaches that blend community-engagement with advanced quantitative methods to understand how, for whom, and under what conditions different interventions or factors affect poor health outcomes among disadvantaged communities. Other initiatives undertaken by the lab include implementation science projects, and mentoring and training efforts designed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic and public health.
Under the direct supervision of the on-site supervisor at San Ysidro Health, a federally qualified health center, with additional direction from the PATH Research Coordinator, the temporary (April 2024 - January 2025) Peer Navigator will provide support to participants living with HIV who are enrolled in the “PATH” (Peers plus mobile App for Treatment in HIV) study funded by the NIH and led by Dr. Pitpitan and other investigators at San Diego State University (SDSU) and UC San Diego (UCSD). The role of the peer navigator is to be a bridge between providers and persons living with HIV to facilitate the medical and psychosocial care of the clients. There are three primary functions of the peer navigator: 1) the peer navigator will support their clients by providing one-on-one peer support to improve clients’ retention in HIV care and AntiRetroviral Therapy (ART) adherence, 2) the peer navigator will communicate and engage with their clients through the use of a web-based application, or “app” accessed through a smartphone or computer (e.g., using the app to setup notifications and medical appointment reminders for their clients, send and receive direct messages from clients, and monitor clients’ reports of their own ART use and their other activities on the app); and 3) the peer navigator will electronically track activities within the app and complete written documentation to regularly report on work-related activities, including participant outreach activities. The peer navigator will serve as an empathic, trustworthy, knowledgeable, and reliable resource for the client’s HIV care while maintaining confidentiality at all levels.

SDSU is leading a new project funded by a UC Climate Action grant in support of a collaborative partnership to advance community and ecosystem resilience to climate change through Indigenous stewardship. Our project, the Collaborative of Native Nations for Climate Transformation and Stewardship (CNNCTS) brings together four universities, six Tribal partners, and the Climate Science Alliance’s Tribal Working Group, a network of representatives from 20+ Tribal governments and organizations in southern California to facilitate a paradigm shift in how climate action is visioned, led, and implemented. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Project Manager will lead and oversee the day to day project operations and logistics of CNNCTS. This work will support the ISR Department Lead Systems Engineer and potentially any of the projects within the ISR Department that don’t require a special clearance. The South Bay Latino Research Center (SBLRC) seeks to promote and expedite research that improves cardiovascular disease outcomes in low-income Hispanic/Latinos living in the border region of San Diego. The SBLRC is considered the community-based clinical research field site within San Diego State University (SDSU) where research activities are conducted. The SBLRC primarily focuses on epidemiologic, behavioral, and genetic research in an effort to improve health, well-being, and the care delivered to Hispanic/Latinos who are at risk for, or have, cardiometabolic conditions such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Housed within the SBLRC, the Hispanic Community Health Study/ Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) is a multi-center, interdisciplinary epidemiological study of Hispanic/Latino populations in the United States sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and other institutions, centers, and offices of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The goals of the HCHS/SOL study include further study of the prevalence and development of chronic disease in Hispanics/Latinos, the role of acculturation in health conditions, and to identify factors that play protective or harmful roles in health among Hispanics/Latinos. This longitudinal cohort study is intended to address a wide variety of health conditions, including heart disease, stroke, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, and diabetes, among others. The target population recruited from the South Bay area of San Diego County includes over 4,000 persons of Hispanic origin between the ages of 18-74.
Under the direct supervision of the Project Managers, Project Coordinator and Project Director, the Research Assistant II (RAII) position is primary responsible for completing research measurements of the HCHS/SOL participants and its ancillary studies. This position is responsible for eligibility screening, assist with recruiting study participants, assessing contraindications and scheduling/confirmation of study visits. Makes transportation arrangements and provides detailed instructions for every step of the visit, as needed. The RA II performs clinical assessments (e.g., blood pressure, anthropometry) accompany participants to off-site testing, and administer informed consents and survey instruments, by telephone or in person.

Purpose Of the Position

Under the direct supervision of the Center Staff Supervisor the Administrative Assistant, as a core member of our Center’s administrative support team, will be responsible for a wide variety of complex work assignments across the Center. This includes assisting Center management in scheduling meetings and special activities; typing and preparing documents, spreadsheets, databases, correspondence, and reports; making travel and other arrangements; ordering and maintaining supplies; supporting basic bookkeeping, and financial record keeping; assisting with the audit of financial documents; and performing other general office support and maintenance activities.

- The salary range for this position is ($22.00 - $24.72) depending upon qualifications and internal equities and is non-negotiable.
The Human Resources department provides a full range of personnel services to approximately 175 central staff employees, eight hundred regular salaried employees, and up to five thousand temporary employees per year. Areas of responsibility includes development and application of personnel policies and procedures, employee relations, fringe benefits, compensation administration, computerized personnel/payroll system, staffing, and affirmative action. Employees of Human Resources participate as active members in various groups and committees dealing with various specific and broad management problems confronting SDSU Research Foundation. The Human Resources staff is expected to develop and use innovative approaches, techniques, and procedures to provide more effective and responsive services to Project Directors and other SDSU Research Foundation managers and staff.
Under the supervision of the HR Manager, the Administrative Support Assistant is responsible for coordinating a variety of administrative and clerical functions in the Human Resources department to meet established deadlines, complete assignments, and support the strategic direction of the department. This position will be responsible for assisting with the recruitment and onboarding process, responding to general HR inquiries, and performing tasks in support of the entire HR department.
