Overview

We are looking for Data Collectors in the following locations: San Diego, Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Los Angeles, Merced and Santa Cruz.

 

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Project Manager, the Evaluation Data Collector (EDC) will be responsible for traveling to local high schools/SBHCs to administer youth assent to participate in the study, collect and record data, including administering surveys to teens in a group setting, and other related tasks. EDCs will participate in a paid training in San Diego or other location in California, in August or September 2017, where they will learn about data collection protocols and procedures.

 

The Evaluation Data Collector (Research Assistant II) is responsible for participating in required training in August/September; strictly adhere to and carry out data collection protocols, including uploading confidential electronic survey data; communicate with the SDSU Evaluation Team Project Manager on a regular basis with data collection logs and field updates; set up, store, ship and maintain electronic tablets used for survey collection; and  liaise with SBHC staff and school administrative personnel. 

 

 

Responsibilities

The Evaluation Data Collector is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

 

Data Collection 65%

  • Manage technology devices that will be used for survey administration (charging, updating, troubleshooting).
  • Coordinate with study site to call students in during scheduled survey dates
  • Contact youth for survey completion via various methods, including phone, email, mail, and social media.
  • Track youth movement from schools by liaising with SBHC staff and school administrative personnel.
  • Communicate with the SDSU Evaluation Team Project Manager on a regular basis with data collection logs and field updates
  • Administer youth assent to participate in the study.
  • Administer survey to student participants at multiple timepoints throughout the academic school year.
  • Answer questions regarding the survey from students, parents, and school staff members.
  • Report on each survey administration to the SDSU Evaluation Team.

Participant Tracking and Follow-Up 30%

  • Assist Evaluation Team in keeping track of participants for future data collection needs.
  • Send reminders via email, text, Facebook, etc. to remind students about upcoming data collection.
  • Update participant contact information when necessary. 

Other Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned 5%

  • Perform miscellaneous evaluation job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 Experience/Education
• Completion of lower division coursework OR equivalent of one year of relevant experience

 

Preferred Experience:

• Previous experience working with teens/adolescents.
• Prior evaluation or research experience, such as survey administration.
• Certified substitute teacher in one of the aforementioned counties.
• Previous experience working as a substitute teacher, retired teacher
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or related field.

 

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with SDSU Research Foundation
