KPBS Desktop Support Specialist

The salary range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00 per hour depending upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.

KPB KPBS serves the greater San Diego community with informative, cultural, entertaining and educational television, radio, and digital programming. KPBS TV/FM is the public television and radio station for San Diego. Licensed to San Diego State University, KPBS supports and furthers the university’s educational and community service mission by informing, enlightening and empowering its audience. It does so not only by presenting national and locally produced programming of value to its San Diego audience, but also by producing programming about San Diego and its people for distribution nationwide.

Under the general supervision of the Help Desk Manager, the Desktop Support Specialist provides frontline technical support and serves as the primary point of contact for employees experiencing technology-related issues. The position is responsible for diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, network, and access-related issues by prioritizing and addressing incoming support requests.

Working collaboratively across the organization, this position is expected to understand technical needs, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely, effective solutions that minimize disruption to business operations. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving ability, sound judgement, and strong customer service skills.

Desktop Support (95%)

• Act as the primary point of contact for technical assistance via ticketing system and in person.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, network, and peripheral issues.
• Handle user onboarding and offboarding, including provisioning accounts in an Active Directory environment, workstation setup, and orientation.
• Configure, image, deploy, and maintain company laptops and desktops using RMM and MDM tools.
• Assist with basic network troubleshooting (Wi-Fi, VPN, Ethernet connectivity) and local office hardware like printers, AV systems, and conference rooms.
• Maintain accurate IT inventory, log all support activities in the ticketing system, and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the team and end-users.
• Perform data entry, document preparation, scanning, copying, mailings, emailing, filing, and making phone calls as requested by the manager.
• Package, test, deploy, update, and troubleshoot software.
• Document all resolutions and instructions in detail in the knowledgebase.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of our IT infrastructure, tracking hardware assets, software licenses, and system configurations.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experience.
