Overview

  • The salary for this position is $ 17.75 per hour and is non-negotiable.

SDSU Global Campus is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Student Assistant to join our social media team as a Content Creator. This role is an exciting opportunity for a student interested in digital marketing, social media strategy, and content creation. The Instructional Design (ID) unit supports Global Campus academic and professional programs by collaborating with faculty and program partners to design, build, and maintain high-quality online and hybrid courses. Work includes instructional design support, learning management system (Canvas) configuration, accessibility-aware course development, and creation of instructional and promotional media. The unit includes full-time professional staff and student assistants who provide essential operational and technical support.

Under the general supervision of the Lead of Instructional Design, the Instructional Design and Media Production - Lead Student Assistant provides advanced student-level support for instructional design, media production, and educational technologies.

Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Educational Technology Support (40%)

  • Assist instructional design staff with building, updating, and organizing course components in Canvas.
  • Support quality assurance reviews of online course materials using established checklists and guidelines.
  • Prepare draft instructional materials (pages, assignments, learning activities) based on direction from Senior Instructional Designers and the Lead.
  • Assist with accessibility-related tasks, such as caption review, document formatting, and basic remediation under supervision.

Media & Content Development Support (25%)

  • Assist in the creation and editing of instructional and promotional media (e.g., short videos, graphics, audio clips) using established templates and workflows.
  • Prepare media assets for use in Canvas and related platforms in accordance with department standards.
  • Organize and maintain shared media and course development files.

Faculty & Project Support (20%)

  • Support faculty and project teams by preparing materials, documenting requests, and tracking tasks in project management tools.
  • Draft communications, job aids, or documentation for review by Senior Instructional Designers and the Executive Director.
  • Observe and assist in faculty consultations or training sessions when appropriate, without independently advising or representing the unit.

Operational & Transitional Responsibilities (10%)

  • Provide input and recommendations related to student workflows, training materials, or onboarding documentation, drawing on lived student assistant experience.
  • Offer non-decision-making input on hiring or onboarding processes (e.g., reviewing training materials, suggesting interview questions), without participating in candidate evaluation, supervision, or selection.

Other Duties as assigned (5%)

  • Perform other related instructional design or educational technology support tasks appropriate to student employment.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience using Canvas or similar learning management systems.
  • Familiarity with common instructional technologies (e.g., Zoom, PlayPosit, Turnitin, Canvas Studio).
  • Experience using AI (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.)
  • Experience using media tools (e.g. Adobe Suite, Canva)
  • Basic knowledge of instructional design principles and online learning practices.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, accept feedback, and work collaboratively.
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple tasks under supervision.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Admission or registration as a CSU student in good academic standing (minimum half-time enrollment).
  • Minimum GPA consistent with CSU student employment requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance academic responsibilities with part-time employment.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting online or hybrid course development.
  • Experience creating or editing basic digital media (video, audio, graphics).
  • Interest in instructional design, educational technology, or related professional pathways.
  • Canvas/LMS experience
  • Familiarity with Zoom, PlayPosit, Turnitin & Canvas Studio
  • AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini)
  • Adobe Suite & Canva
  • Basic instructional design knowledge
  • Strong communication & organization
  • Detail-oriented, collaborative & adaptable
