Overview

This position has been budgeted for $6,250.00 per month and is non-negotiable. 

 

Established in 1943, the mission of the SDSU Research Foundation (SDSURF) is to support the research objectives of San Diego State University by helping faculty and staff find, obtain, and administer funding for their research and sponsored programs. SDSU achieved its strategic plan goal of becoming an R1, premier public research university in early 2025 furthering discoveries, interventions, and solutions that improve communities and change the world. SDSURF provides the full life cycle of grants services to faculty and staff to further their important work.

The Live Well Center for Innovation & Leadership (LWCIL) is San Diego County’s Academic Health and Human Services Department initiative pioneered by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) and San Diego State University (SDSU). LWCIL’s mission is to strengthen the partnership between academia and health and human services practice through integrated education, research, workforce development, and service that advances equity in San Diego. The LWCIL Regional Health and Human Services Workforce Manager is a pivotal role designed to bridge the gap between academic programs and regional health and human services industry needs. This position will oversee strategic initiatives to develop and strengthen partnerships with public and private sector employers including the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, health care providers, community-based organizations and K-12, community college and university education systems across the San Diego region. This position is responsible for aligning academic and workforce training programs with regional workforce needs and opportunities as well as conducting targeted outreach to promote our academic partners’ programs, coordinating student internship and experiential learning opportunities, and developing career pathways that support a diverse, competent and engaged workforce for the region within the framework of an Academic Health and Human Services Department. In addition, this position will collaborate within and across LWCIL, the College of Health and Human Services and SDSU’s Career Services.

Responsibilities

Student Field Experiences, Workforce Development and Outreach 40%

  • Provide lead support to LWCIL’s SDSU Student and Alumni Outreach Workgroup in planning and executing HHSA’s annual outreach program and the annual Health and Human Services Careers Week at SDSU.
  • Provide ongoing support for the implementation and expansion of HHSA’s Academic Internship Program including the establishment of sustainable systems and structures.
  • Support and expand student internship, residency, and job shadowing programs, ensuring high-quality experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Coordinate with SDSU academic and career services teams to provide relevant student professional development and networking opportunities with HHS professionals.
  • Collaborate with K-12, community college and universities to align, coordinate, and expand career pathways.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct outreach activities to promote LWCIL, HHSA and/or the SDSU’s College of Health and Human Services degree programs within the community and to potential students, alumni, and current/prospective employees.
  • Collaborate with SDSU’s College of Health and Human Services leadership and faculty in developing and implementing Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Practice opportunities for students.
  • Identify shared workforce development goals between HHSA and SDSU and manage the development of a multi-year workforce development plan.
  • Identify and develop systems and processes for cross-department workforce development and student involvement coordination and collaboration within HHSA.

 

HHS Industry Partnerships & Workforce Alignment 30%

  • Assist with developing and executing a comprehensive strategy for employer engagement and industry partnerships across the regional health and human services sector.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key employers and stakeholders to identify workforce needs and ensure academic offerings align with industry expectations.
  • Serve as a liaison between HHSA, SDSU, and other external partners, including government agencies, community-based organizations, and corporations.
  • Assist with convening and managing employer councils and/or boards to facilitate ongoing communication and input from HHS industry leaders.
  • Lead the development of a regional HHS workforce report and online dashboard including ongoing maintenance.

 

Academic Health & Human Services Department 25%

  • Participate as a member of academic-practice team planning and managing the progress and expansion of LWCIL.
  • Manage assigned LWCIL Subcommittees and workgroups in the execution of the overall Strategic Roadmap and their respective action plans and workplans.
  • Develop systems for the ongoing management, sustainability and measurable success of LWCIL.
  • Represent LWCIL (HHSA and SDSU) at HHS industry events, career fairs, and professional conferences to increase visibility and development partnerships.
  • Contribute to the updating of LWCIL’s Strategic Roadmap to ensure relevant progress and impact.
  • Track, analyze, and report on performance metrics, program effectiveness, and regional employment trends to inform strategic planning and decision-making.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Proven experience in program management, partnership development, or workforce development within the health and human services or higher education sectors.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Ability to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience using data to inform decisions.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administration work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in office or administrative environment

 

Preferred Qualifications & Special Skills

  • Bachelor's or Masters' degree in Human Services, Public Health, Business Administration, or a closely related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Five years of experience in workforce development, student field experiences, employer relations and building partnerships and outcome-based collaborations
  • In-depth knowledge of current trends, laws, and policies related to health and human services workforce development and relevant academic programs.
  • Abilities: Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and backgrounds, function calmly in high-sensitivity situations, and demonstrate appropriate judgment and discretion.
  • Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google and virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and MS Teams.
