Overview

The salary range for this position is $7,371.00 - $10,813.70 per month depending on qualificaitons and is non-negotiable.

Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE IN CREATING THE UNIVERSITY’S PRESENT AND FUTURE

This is an opportunity to be a hands-on technical leader, innovator and pathfinder in SDSURF’s digital journey.

As a Senior Banner Programmer/Analyst, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing our enterprise applications ecosystem. You’ll collaborate with IT, Finance, HR, and Research Administration to deliver secure, efficient, and scalable solutions that drive innovation and operational excellence. Your expertise in Ellucian Banner, Oracle technologies, and modern integration platforms will help sustain and enhance systems that support SDSURF’s financial, HR, and research administration operations.

This position combines application development and system administration — ideal for a hands-on technologist who enjoys variety, autonomy and making a big impact.

 

THE WORK YOU WILL DO AND MANAGE

The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver and technical pathfinder who thrives on tackling complex challenges in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. You bring a balance of hands-on expertise, systems thinking, and curiosity, with the ability to design and sustain technological solutions that make a measurable difference.

  • Design, code, and document Oracle PL\SQL and Oracle Application Express applications, reports and workflows including related DB tables and DB objects
  • Configure and administer Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) and Tomcat application servers
  • Implement and manage Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations using Azure Active Directory, SAML2, and OAuth2, including digital certificate management.
  • Configure and administer Linux environments that support Banner and related systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to Banner performance, integration, and data integrity.
  • Develop and maintain Ellucian Banner Source Code, customizations, extensions, and integrations using Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, Java, and Groovy/Grails.
  • Lead and contribute to system upgrades and modernization initiatives, integrating new technologies that strengthen SDSURF’s digital infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into secure, scalable, and user-centered solutions. 

This position requires occasional on-call hours for scheduled upgrades or emergency maintenance, though every effort is made to minimize after-hours work.

Qualifications

THE SKILLS WE NEED

  • Programming and business analysis experience in Ellucian Banner ERP (General, Finance, HR modules)
  • IT development experience with Oracle database technology using PL/SQL, SQL, Java and JavaScript
  • Experience designing, programming, and publishing complex reports using PL/SQL, SQL, Oracle Application Express (APEX), or other enterprise reporting tools.
  • Proficiency with Linux shell scripting / VI editor (RedHat)
  • Experience in configuration, administration, shell scripting and securing in Linux operating system environments
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Azure AD SSO connections/integrations across multiple diverse enterprise applications
  • Hands-on experience configuring, securing, and administering Linux environments and application servers (Tomcat, ORDS).
  • Experience consulting with end-users to gather requirements and produce technical and functional specifications.
  • Experience taking ownership of projects and successfully deploying new applications and integrations
  • JDK/JRE Java Keystore deployment and maintenance experience
  • Experience configuring, securing and deploying Tomcat and other application servers

 

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND appropriate Oracle Certification.
  • Four years of related work experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on programming and business analysis experience with Ellucian Banner Finance and HR modules.
  • Experience developing and supporting Oracle Application Express (APEX) applications.
  • Experience in Banner 9 source code maintenance, including Admin Pages extension deployment using Eclipse/Java, Groovy/Grails, and Banner Admin Page extensions.
  • Experience with GitHub, Bitbucket, or other source control/development toolkits.
  • Java, Java Keystore and certificate deployment and maintenance
  • SAML SSO and Shibboleth Identity Provider Configuration, SAML Tracer debugging
  • Oracle DBA training or experience
  • Experience configuring and deploying Apache Tomcat servers in enterprise environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain legacy Pro*C programs and reports
  • JSON, API experience
