The San Diego State University Institute for Transformative Education promotes college access and completion for low-income and/or first-generation-college students through excellence and innovation in education. SDSU Upward Bound (UB) educational programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education to assist eligible high school students to pursue and complete postsecondary education. There are 13 staff members in the Academic Year and approximately 24 during the Six-Week Summer Academy. UB is funded to serve 167 students (93 UB Classic and 74 UB STAR) during the Academic Year and 60 students (33 UB Classic and 27 UB STAR) during the Six-Week Summer Academy.
The SDSU Institute for Transformative Education is seeking an instructor for a Community Health course for our high school students during our six-week hybrid Summer Academy. The course will focus on a Youth Impact Assessment research project with topics such as obesity, mental health, and the Opioid epidemic. The Institute’s goal is to assist low-income and/or first-generation-college students currently in high school to prepare for success in college. The six-week hybrid Summer Academy provides participants with fast-paced, intensive research coursework and other enrichment activities. The Summer Academy's design begins with five days of online instruction (June 9, 2025 to June 13th), three weeks of residential days (June 16, 2025 to July 2, 2025).
