Under general supervision incumbents perform standard laboratory and/or field experimental research procedures that require some technical and/or scientific knowledge from the appropriate coursework or skills acquired through work experience (for example previously as RAI). Instructions/policies/procedures and research protocols are provided with a progression to an occasional review as more independence is achieved; assignments involve some use of discretion, judgment and innovation.
Examples of research duties at this level include gathering data and sample collection, administering assessments to participants, ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies/equipment, preparing assessment instruments and checking for completeness; coordinating daily research activities such as answering calls, responding to emails, scheduling participants, and taking and distributing meeting minutes. May oversee data collection activities of lower level RA's.
This is an intermediate-level position for incumbents who have some coursework or work experience in a research environment. In addition to the abilities required for the Research Assistant I level, the RAII must be able to quickly learn and apply intermediate research methods and procedures; perform more advanced mathematical calculations, interpret research protocols, and perform more advanced research activities.
