  • This position works a hybrid, in-office/remote schedule and the incumbent must reside in California a commutable distance from San Diego State University.

WHAT OUR DEPARTMENT DOES

Our Sponsored Research Contracting and Compliance (SRCC) department supports the Foundation’s mission by providing effective award negotiations, initiating the subcontracting process for sponsored programs.  SRCC works closely with Sponsored Research Development (preaward) and Sponsored Research Administration (post award), the Office of Technology Transfer, as well as SDSU’s Research Support Services (compliance) to ensure that compliance, policies and procedures are adhered to in the negotiation and awarding processes. 

 

YOUR ROLE IN CREATING THE UNIVERSITY’S PRESENT AND FUTURE

As the SRCC Associate Director you will be an integral part of the Sponsored Research Contracting and Compliance team.  You will work closely with the Director, Contract Specialists, Analysts and Technician as well as collaborate with the Offices of Research Support Services and Technology Transfer in order to process awards and subagreements effectively and efficiently and the related compliance allowing the project directors to focus on the scopes of work. 

Responsibilities

THE WORK YOU WILL DO AND MANAGE

Your work will include supervision of staff in conjunction with reviewing and negotiating incoming sponsored programs award documents, preparing subagreements and ensuring compliance requirements have been satisfied for both awards and subagreements.  You will work closely with the Director to create, review, facilitate and strengthen internal processes and procedures.

 

Responsible for supervision of the Sponsored Research Contracting and Compliance departmental staff, including workload assignments, performance evaluations, training and day-to-day supervision. Coordinates and provides outreach with SDSU, CSU and all departments within Foundation, in particular both Sponsored Research Development and Sponsored Research Administration and others as needed. Works closely with SR Development to review and prepare proposal documents related to contact proposal submissions; works closely with SR Administration on post award contractual items, including contractual award interpretation, amendments, terms and conditions and the preparation of sub agreements; works closely with Risk Management to evaluate areas of concern related to sponsored programs. Engages sponsors in revising terms and conditions, which are complementary to SDSU/Foundation policies.

Qualifications

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
  • Six years of professional experience in a management or supervisory capacity.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with various types of government, university and commercial sole-source and competitive contracts, including but not limited to cost reimbursable, cost sharing, fixed-price, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity, and time and materials contract and subcontract types
  • Previous experience with policy compliance, export controls, pre-award proposal process and post-award administration, as well as general knowledge of intellectual property
  • Experience working with sponsored programs software systems such as Banner, InfoEd, and Visual Compliance
  • Knowledge of SDSURF, SDSU and CSU policies and procedures related to sponsored research administration

  • The salary range for this position is $10,000 per month /$120,000.00 per year to $11,250 per month / $135,000.00 per year depending upon qualifications and internal equities and is non-negotiable.
