Overview

The salaray range for this position is $5,567.67 - $5,677.42 and is budgeted for $5,546.67 and is non-negotiable.  Tentative start date is 9/2/2024.

 

Seabird population dynamics

Seeking a highly qualified and experienced candidate to join our research team and lead efforts in seabird population quantitative analyses. Southern California is home to some of the largest breeding colonies of seabirds and coastal/wetland shorebirds. In partnership with CDFW, IEMM provides quantitative expertise to support CDFW’s ongoing efforts to monitor and conserve these populations. Applicants should have experience in quantitative population analyses and approaches.

 

Qualifications

A PhD is required as well as training or experience in ecology, applied conservation science, or related fields. Candidates must demonstrate scholarship, leadership and have at least 5 years of experience conducting ecological research. Experience in interdisciplinary and innovative, integrated research approaches is a plus. Candidates should be able to work both independently and in a collaborative setting with project team members, stakeholders, and partners at a variety of natural resource management organizations, community organizations, as well as Tribal governments or organizations. We are excited to welcome candidates with excellent interpersonal skills, strong writing capacity, and a growing publication record. The researchers will be based at San Diego State University (SDSU) and will work under the direction of Dr. Rebecca Lewison. The positions may require travel within California. Start date is Sept 2, 2024.

 

Appointment: Appointments will be for two years from start date, contingent upon performance. Starting salary is approximately $66,560 a year plus benefits (DOE).

Responsibilities

Candidate will be expected to conduct quantitative analyses using archived data from CDFW. This could include demographic analyses, population trend analysis, multivariate statistical analyses on multiple data sources. The position will also require written and oral communication in the form of webinars, manuscripts, grant proposals and other engagement and outreach activities.

  • A doctoral degree in an appropriate field
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience
