Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Learning Experience Design (LXD) Manager is responsible for the management of the Learning Experience Design (LXD) Team, including program planning, organization, implementation, and personnel. The position is responsible for providing overall project management, quality assurance oversight, and learning experience design strategy for Academy eLearning courses. This position manages project and LXD Team schedules and work assignments for eLearning production and graphic design projects across Academy programs. The LXD Manager tracks online learning trends, including immersive technologies, ethical and responsible use of gAI, innovative instructional design, and distance learning best practices. They will attend and facilitate stakeholder meetings related to online learning and partner with Academy Program leads to ensure contract deliverables for eLearning courses and graphic design products are highly engaging and are interactive and visually appealing. The LXD Manager will communicate the Academy brand to our stakeholders and learners. This position oversees a team of seven staff members, including two direct reports, and is a member of the Academy’s Shared Leadership Team (SLT).

This is a 40-hour-a-week, full-time position, working M-F from 8:00 to 4:30 p.m., and is based on contract funding subject to annual renewal. The position is subject to rare overnight travel and work shifts outside of normal business hours, including weekends and evenings. This position is based in California with the flexibility to be fully remote working primarily from a home office in California, fully office-based, or a hybrid of the two. Occasional travel is required to attend or facilitate in-person meetings or training.
Note: some duties may include working with and/or exposure to sensitive/traumatic topics or material dealing with child abuse, elder abuse, and/or issues and scenarios related to mental health, substance use, or racism.
As a project of San Diego State University Research Foundation, the Academy is grant-funded and serves as an auxiliary to the University. We are based near, but not on campus, and do not have direct responsibilities for working with or teaching college students.
