Overview

The salary range for this position is $16.85 for Undergraduate I and is non-negotiable.

NIWC PAC is involved in a variety of research projects to ultimately support the U.S warfighter. One particular area of interest is environmental modeling within naval environments. Being able to sense hazards within the marine or aquatic environments allows personnel to assess risks and respond appropriately. NIWC Pacific along with collaborators are currently developing tools to predict potential hazards within the Santa Margarita Estuary located on (MCBCP) and Puget Sound (Naval Station Bremerton). The student will primarily be involved in retrieving, formatting, and reviewing input datasets. The student shall also participate in planning meetings and conference calls with project collaborators. No human or animal testing is expected with this effort.

This Statement of Work covers the need for the services of a college student to provide environmental modeling and analytical support for water contaminant research at the Naval Information Warfare Systems Center, Pacific (NIWC PAC). This work shall require a combined use of mathematical knowledge/skills, numerical modeling/simulation, and input data formatting and processing. The purpose of this task is to update existing hydrodynamic models and assess fate transport of contaminants under a variety of scenarios at Navy ports of interest.

Responsibilities

The student contractor shall provide analytical and technical support in the following areas, as specified under individual task orders, to the work sponsor:

  • Hydrology
  • Aggregating hydrodynamic model input data.
  • Performing data analysis using off-the-shelf software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, geospatial GUIs, Python), self-written software with algorithms to be developed as needed, and other statistical packages.
  • Conducting relevant literature searches pertaining to the studies and participating in report preparation for the environmental modeling research.
  • Monthly Status Reports and Bi-Weekly Time Reports shall be in accordance with basiccontract CDRL.
