Overview

The wage range for this position is $22.57 - $23.54 per hour and is non-negotiable. 

This position works a hybrid in-office/remote schedule. Incumbent must live within a commutable distance to San Diego State University.

WHAT OUR DEPARTMENT DOES

The SDSURF’s Procurement department participates in the university’s mission of research excellence by supporting all project and department staff seeking goods and services to procure that allow them to continue their research without delay.  In accordance with the responsibility and authority delegated by SDSURF’s chief financial officer, our staff oversees that all services are in accordance with Research Foundation, state, federal, and sponsoring agencies’ policies, and guidelines as well as good business practices.

 

YOUR ROLE IN CREATING THE UNIVERSITY’S PRESENT AND FUTURE

The Buyer II plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations of the department which leads to the success of researchers, the Research Foundation and San Diego State University.  Our procurement team ensures that all acquisitions meet the policies and procedures put in place by the funding agency, CSU, SDSU and SDSURF.  Our team will assist in finding competent suppliers, clarify supplier terms and conditions, and monitoring all orders until complete.

Responsibilities

THE WORK YOU WILL DO AND MANAGE

The Buyer II under the guidance of the Procurement Manager will assist in the day-to-day processes within the department that include exceptional customer service to our stakeholders as they may have questions or concerns regarding an order or require assistance on getting a quote, process purchase orders in a timely manner, communicate with customers regarding order delays, product availability or price changes or returns, maintaining a good company image with suppliers through daily business contacts, understand SDSU protocols for acquisitions of controlled substances, hazardous or radioactive materials, compressed gasses and chemicals, and to work with various departments such as accounts payable and sponsored research administration.

Qualifications

THE SKILLS WE NEED

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Needed:

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies, written procedures, regulations, and precedents specific to SDSURF and able to respond to inquiries and explain to others.
  • Knowledge of and understanding of sales and use tax.
  • Ability to perform basic purchasing and understanding of contracts and agreements.
  • Possess excellent communications skills, ability to articulate and write with proper grammar.
  • Ability to possess strong sense of teamwork but can work independently.
  • Ability to be well organized, meet deadlines, display detail orientation; possess good judgment and common sense.
  • Must be a fast learner and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in purchasing, marketing, accounting, business, or a related field. Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two-years purchasing experience at a level equivalent to Buyer I with background in areas such as formal competitive bidding processes, development of contracts, service agreements, leases or other written legal agreements.
  • Basic to intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Special Skills:

  • Strong customer service skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Banner, Etrieve, Chrome River and other related ERP systems.
