Overview

The SDSU Research Foundation Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program is the largest WIC agency in San Diego County, with approximately 80 employees providing a variety of nutrition services to over 26,000 participants monthly. The WIC program is a safety net program that aims to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care for residents of San Diego County.

 

Responsibilities

The WIC Community Liason is responsible for but not limited to:

 

SITE VISIT AND VENDOR SUPPORT 50%

Responsibilities include but not limited to monitoring and providing support to WIC authorized vendors for compliance with all of state and federal requirements, process vendor survey request from the California WIC program; tracks records from store visits; provides vendors with WIC program changes, updates, and materials; directs WIC vendors to appropriate state WIC representatives for assistance with vendor agreements; address store and participant complaints to create a positive shopping experience for vendors and WIC participants; provides training to stores as needed. Maintains good working relationships with the California WIC Program and local vendors.

 

OUTREACH SUPPORT 20%

Responsible for supporting the outreach and promotional activities for the WIC Program, including but not limited to attending and conducting community outreach activities to culturally diverse and multigenerational groups and distributing outreach materials into the community. Maintains a good working relationship with all of the stakeholders. Engage in community involvement through Community Advocacy and Collaboration meetings with a wide range of individuals and organizations to positively impact the lives of the families we serve. Assists Community Services Manager and Outreach Coordinator in coordinating special events to promote the program to staff, community and participants.

 

SPECIAL PROJECTS 20%

Creates and facilitates staff trainings as assigned by Community Services Manager. Provides support to education, training and breastfeeding projects. Assist in coordination and support of staff meetings and mandated trainings. Assist in translation of surveys and customer service materials.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES AS ASSIGNED 10%

May participate in other trainings provided by the WIC program; participates in the enrollment and/or certification process of participants and other direct service duties as needed. 

Qualifications

Experience/Education

  • Completion of sufficient upper division coursework in business administration, public health or related –OR- the equivalent of 2-years of full time progressively responsible related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business administration, public health or related
  • Experience working with the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program and policies
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience working with low-income communities

Additional Applicant Information

  • Candidate must reside in California and able to report to worksite when needed.
  • This position has a temporary hybrid schedule with some work at home and in the office as needed.
