Overview

This position is open until filled with first review of applicants to take place on September 13th.

 

The mission of the SDSU Global Campus is to provide self-support education and training to enhance careers and transform lives and organizations. SDSU Global Campus serves as the principal University liaison with the greater San Diego community and provides a wide variety of traditional and nontraditional, credit and noncredit educational experiences designed to fit the life-style and expectations of working adults and other lifelong learners.  In addition, SDSU Global Campus provides a range of academic special programs for individuals and groups at various times, in various locations, and via various modalities throughout the year.  The American Language Institute (ALI) provides language training to international students, teacher training for adults, and programs that allow international students to attend credit courses at SDSU.  The marketing department is responsible for all marketing efforts to support SDSU Global Campus and the ALI, including publications, advertising, research, public relations, media relations, developing strategic marketing plans, photography and video, website maintenance and enhancement, database development, social media marketing, and other marketing related functions as needed.

 

Under the general direction of the Director of Admissions, this position provides lead nurturing and administrative support to the Admissions Department at SDSU Global Campus. This position carries a medium level of responsibility with regard to the information available to them; therefore, the candidate’s success is contingent upon their ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality at all times.

Responsibilities

The Student Assistant is responsible for independently performing numerous and varied day-to-day project activities:

LEAD NURTURING AND ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT (95%)
 

Excellent customer service, time management, and communication skills, the ability to research and gather information from a variety of sources and condense in a meaningful way to provide students with support, encouragement and referrals to SDSU resources and services, as needed. Assist with recruitment and advising initiatives including outreach and yield campaigns, lead nurturing, and live chat. Ability to work well with a wide variety of individuals at all levels of interests and responsibilities, and to work both independently and as a member of the team. This is a fast-paced environment; you will have a variety of products for your portfolio at the end of this assignment.

 

ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (5%)

Qualifications

Students must be currently enrolled as a student at SDSU. Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 units and be in good academic standing; Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 5 graduate weighted units and be in good academic standing. 

 

Knowledge & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to display strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to execute high quality customer service techniques and practices
  • Ability to display strong math competency, application of databases, and computer spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge and proficiency using G Suite, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet application systems
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within the University,
  • Department and SDSU Research Foundation and with officials from external agencies. Must have the ability to communicate effectively both oral and written and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential documents and information.
  • Ability to work independently, under general direction of the Fiscal and Operations Support staff,
  • Department Chair, Institute Co-Directors and faculty. Possess good common sense.
  • Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness and make correcting entries.
  • Ability to maintain accounting of financial records.
  • Ability to interact effectively with co-workers.
  • Ability to understand and follow posted work rules and procedures
  • Ability to demonstrate traits of a highly motivated self-starter, with a high energy level.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of cross-cultural sensitivity.

Minimum Education:

  • Education is based on the particular knowledge, ability or expertise needed

Minimum Experience:

  • Experience focusing on the particular area or speciality for which the service is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to two years of responsible office experience, which provides the above knowledge and abilities. 
  • Current SDSU student with the equivalent training and administrative work experience.

ADDITIONAL APPLICANT INFORMATION

  • The COVID-19 vaccine is required by the CSU for all SDSU Research Foundation employees as a condition of employment. Should you be offered a position, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination status. Individuals who obtain an approved medical or religious exemption on file will be required to complete regular COVID-19 testing
  • This is an academic appointment intended to cover student employees who are currently enrolled at San Diego State University.  This position is a half-time appointment, paid hourly for hours worked not to exceed 20-hours per week.
